Earliest signs in the history were used already in ancient times with the purpose of adverising goods. In Classic Greece they were used quite frequently as signages in bakeries although other professions like shoemakers or blacksmiths used them too. In those times they were simple paintings showing what you can buy in a given place.

As the industrial revolution became widespread and the consumption of the market grew rapidly the first written signs were used to advertise a given brand or product. As more and more people were able to read it quickly became a very effective way of catching one's eye through advertising some products.

Metal tin signs were then placed both inside and outside barber's, groceries, banks, alcohol shops, etc. As soon as the car industry boomed lots of car showrooms, car service specialists started to use metal tin signages to make their services effectively marked with catchy ads.

It was the earliest examples of signs that were made of tin - subsequent versions often were ade of steel as the heavy industry sector developed considerably. After the WWII when the technology became more advanced again the deault material for signs was predominantly vinyl which made tin signs disappear in the late 40's and early 50's.
